Why Choose Dr. Baier as Your Sandy Springs Dentist?
Patients choose Dr. Baier because he takes time most offices don't. Every visit includes a careful look at your teeth, gums, jaw joints, and bite. His advanced training at Spear Education and The Pankey Institute shapes treatment plans that fix the cause of a problem, not just the symptom.
- Treatment planned around your needs, not a template
- A team that listens before recommending anything
- Questions about your overall health, not just your teeth
- A full check of how your jaw joints and bite work together
- Gentle care focused on keeping you comfortable
- Conservative options first, whenever they fit

"A crown or veneer is only as good as the bite it sits in. That's why I check your jaw joints and how your teeth meet before I recommend anything. It takes a little longer up front, but the work holds up better and feels more comfortable for years."

Meet Dr. Rodney Baier, DDS
Dr. Baier earned his dental degree from the West Virginia University School of Dentistry. He has since completed advanced training at The Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, Florida, and at Spear Education in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he serves as visiting faculty, mentoring other dentists and sharing detailed case reports.
Dentistry was a second career for Dr. Baier. He studied marketing and worked in sales until a visit to a dentist friend in Miami changed his path. In his words: "I spent the entire day at his office and was amazed by the level of care he provided his patients in a friendly office environment."
Lifelong TMD problems of his own led him to thousands of hours of advanced training in jaw and bite care. He knows firsthand what jaw pain feels like.
Meet The DoctorWhat Is TMD, and How Is It Treated?
TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder) means one or both jaw joints aren't working as they should. It can cause jaw pain, headaches, earaches, clicking, or a jaw that locks. Most cases are treated without surgery, using a custom oral appliance, bite balancing, or repair of damaged teeth.
TMD can start with an injury to the jaw, a misaligned bite, arthritis, or bruxism (clenching and grinding your teeth, often during sleep). Over time, grinding can crack teeth, wear down enamel, and strain your chewing muscles.
Dr. Baier starts by finding what's driving your symptoms. Treatment may include a custom occlusal splint (night guard) to protect your teeth and relax your jaw muscles, adjusting how your teeth meet, or replacing a missing or broken tooth that throws off your bite. Surgery is rarely needed. We welcome TMJ patients from Dunwoody, Buckhead, and across north Atlanta, including those who have been told to "just live with" jaw pain.
Learn About TMJ Treatment in Sandy Springs

"I've dealt with TMD myself, so I never brush off jaw pain. For most of my patients, relief starts with a custom appliance that protects the teeth and lets the jaw muscles relax, not surgery. Once we know what's driving the pain, we can treat the cause."
Cosmetic Dentistry: Which Option Fits Your Smile?
The right cosmetic treatment depends on what you want to change. Whitening lifts stains. Bonding repairs small chips and gaps, often in one visit. Porcelain veneers cover bigger flaws in color and shape. Clear aligners straighten crooked teeth. Dr. Baier will help you weigh each option.
The best candidates for cosmetic work have healthy teeth and gums. If Dr. Baier finds cavities or gum disease, we'll treat those first so your results last.

How Treatment Works at Our Office
Care at our office follows four steps: a thorough exam with X-rays and scans, a sit-down conversation about your goals, a personal treatment plan, and treatment with follow-up. Some care is finished in a single visit. Larger cases may take several appointments, and we explain every step before we begin.
- Exam, X-rays, and scans. Dr. Baier checks your teeth, gums, jaw joints, and bite, and takes X-rays and scans to see what the eye cannot.
- A conversation about your goals. You sit down with Dr. Baier to review what he found and talk about what matters most to you.
- Your personal treatment plan. Dr. Baier lays out your options, the order of care, and what each step involves, so you can decide with confidence.
- Treatment and follow-up. Care may be finished in one visit or spread over several, and our team checks in with you after procedures.

Replacing a Missing Tooth: Implant or Bridge?
A dental implant replaces the whole tooth, root included, so it doesn't rely on the teeth next to it and helps protect your jawbone. A bridge fills the gap by crowning the teeth on each side. Implants usually cost more up front, while bridges are often quicker to finish.
| Dental implant | Dental bridge | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Higher up front | Usually lower up front |
| Durability | Built as a long-term replacement; can last many years with good care | Long-lasting, but may need replacing over time |
| Bone health | Helps preserve the jawbone where the tooth is missing | Doesn’t replace the root, so bone under the gap can shrink |
| Nearby teeth | Left untouched | Crowned to support the false tooth |
| Maintenance | Brush and floss like a natural tooth | Clean under the false tooth with a floss threader |
After an implant post is placed, it bonds with the jawbone over a few months (a process called osseointegration) before the final porcelain crown goes on. Dr. Baier will tell you which option fits your bite, your bone, and your budget.
